The Muppets (2012)

The film follows Mary (Amy Adams), Gary (Jason Segel) and his brother Walter, who whilst in LA visit the old Muppets studio, to only find out that it is going to be destroyed in order for Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to dig for oil. So in true Blues Brothers style, Walter, Mary and Gary go in search of Kermit and the rest of the gang, to put on one last show in order to make 10 million to save the Muppets studio.

This is one of the greatest kids films in such a long time. This is a true love letter to a time where kids films genuinely did bring happiness and joy to kids of all ages.

Being a huge Muppets fan myself I couldn’t help but love this film. But the story line is perfect in that the Muppets haven’t made a film in over ten years and they really did disappear despite the fans missing them so much and how much the world has changed. I think that’s what works so well about it, the fact that this is a film about the Muppets re-uniting and that is something everybody has wanted to see. This isn’t perhaps the best Muppet’s film but it is a truly fitting  look back at the great times the Muppets had.

Music is sensational and Bret Mckenzie’s Oscar Nominated song “Am I a Muppet or a Man?” has to win that Oscar. If it doesn’t, then I’ll just have another reason to hate the academy. The sheer amount of cameos as well is hilarious.

At times hilarious, at times quite sad and at times extremely nostalgic, but completely brilliant through and through. The unbelievable identification it is to have with Walter almost made me cry. And if you don’t enjoy this film you either have never asked yourself – Am I a man, or a Muppet? or you just don’t have the childhood attachment to the Muppets that I maybe, have. But whether you’ve never seen a Muppets movie before, you’re bound to enjoy this. But I feel this is mostly for those that are already Muppets fans.

Not the best of the Muppet’s outings, but the perfect farewell to the greatest entertainers on TV. Absolutely fantastic.

(Plus Paul Simon is on the soundtrack too, so 50% of my favourite band plus the Muppets, what am I not gunna love about this movie?)
